Jeremy Thomas is a Truckee singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist whose songs blend folk, Americana and world music, shaped by a life lived outdoors and on the move. He spent much of his youth living and traveling abroad, then worked for years as a raft guide and kayaker on California’s rivers, in the Grand Canyon, and in the Amazonian highlands of Ecuador and Peru. He has also chased snow from the Sierra Nevada to the Andes. Those adventures, along with family, friendship and loss, run through his music. His debut album, Little Diamonds, began as a challenge he set himself on his 50th birthday. Recorded in Truckee with lifelong friends, it ranges from instrumental guitar pieces to rock ballads, Indian ragas and afro-reggae grooves. Locals may also know Jeremy from The Johnson Party, the well-known Truckee band who are ambassadors of the California Mountain Music sound. At The Cottonwood on Friday, November 6, at 6 pm, he strips it all down to voice and acoustic guitar for an intimate evening of original songs.
