Frequently Asked Questions

What instruments can I play?
Song Group welcomes all instruments! We regularly have guitarists (acoustic and electric), bassists, drummers, keyboardists, and vocalists. If you play something else like harmonica, mandolin, or violin, you're welcome too -- we'll find a way to include you.
What skill level do I need to be?
All skill levels are welcome! We have everyone from beginners who've just learned a few chords to experienced musicians. Our facilitators provide sheet music and adapt songs to accommodate different skill levels. The key is enthusiasm and willingness to play with others.
Is sheet music provided?
Yes! We provide chord charts and sheet music for all songs. You can access the music ahead of time if you want to practice, or just show up and play along -- both approaches work great.
What songs do we play?
We play a diverse mix of popular songs across genres including classic rock, folk, pop, blues, and more. Think artists like Tom Petty, Beatles, Johnny Cash, Eagles, and contemporary hits. We're also open to suggestions from the group!
What should I expect at my first session?
Show up 10 minutes early to get settled and meet the group. We'll start with introductions, then dive into playing songs together. Our facilitator will guide you through each song and help you feel comfortable. Don't worry about making mistakes -- everyone's here to have fun and support each other.
Do I need to bring my own instrument?
Yes, please bring your instrument. However, we provide drums, keyboards, amps, and other equipment. Guitarists and bassists should bring their instruments, but we have amps available if you don't have one.
How often does Song Group meet?
We meet once a month, typically on weekend afternoons. The exact date varies, so sign up for our calendar updates to stay informed about upcoming sessions.
How much does it cost?
First-time participants pay just $10 for their first session. After that, you can drop in for $20 per session or join our monthly membership for $15/month (includes unlimited sessions). Monthly membership is the best value if you plan to attend regularly.
Do I need to commit to every session?
Not at all! Drop-in when your schedule allows. There's no commitment required unless you choose the monthly membership option, which is month-to-month and can be canceled anytime.
Can I just sing, or do I need to play an instrument?
Singers are absolutely welcome! We love having vocalists join us for harmonies and lead vocals. You don't need to play an instrument -- just bring your voice.
Is there an age requirement?
Song Group is designed for adults (18+). We have other programs for younger musicians -- check out our youth bands and private lessons for students under 18.
Where do I park?
There's free parking available in front of our building at 10046 Donner Pass Rd. If the lot is full, street parking is available on Donner Pass Road.
Can I cancel my monthly membership?
Yes, you can cancel your monthly membership at any time with no penalties or fees. Just let us know before the next billing cycle.
What if I have more questions?
We'd love to hear from you! Contact us through our website or give us a call. We're happy to answer any questions and help you feel comfortable joining your first session.
